Equity Cohort

Cohort Title

Dear Beloved,

We are really honored that you are joining this year’s Equity cohort. Thich Nhat Hanh said “The larger your beloved community, the more you can accomplish in the world.” That’s why we’re here. We are committed to growing the beloved community of leaders in your city. Leaders who see equity as justice, who have deep personal convictions, and who have a clear path for how to execute against that vision.

At Beloved, we ask lots of questions to drive an equity analysis. This cohort is designed to help you answer four questions:

  • Why does racial equity matter to me?

  • Why does racial equity matter for our school community?

  • Why does racial equity matter for your industry and where you’re located?

  • What am I going to do about it?

I can’t wait to meet each of you online and in person. I’m looking forward to the new questions that you will raise around equity and the future of our city.

In Solidarity, Rhonda Broussard, CEO

Moment of Silence

Indigenous Land Acknowledgement Beloved Community would like to acknowledge that this virtual session is presented and recorded on the traditional land of the several indigenous peoples both past and present. We honor with gratitude the land itself and the people of these Indigenous communities.

For New Orleans/Bulbancha: and more broadly, Louisiana, we would like to recognize the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana, the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana, the Jena Band of Choctaw Indians, and the Tunica-Biloxi Indian Tribe of Louisiana. We would also like to acknowledge the state-recognized tribes of Louisiana, which include the Addai Caddo Tribe, the Biloxi-Chitimacha Confederation of Muskogee, Choctaw-Apache Community of Ebarb, Clifton Choctaw, Four Winds Tribe Louisiana Cherokee Confederacy, Grand Caillou/Dulac Band, Isle de Jean Charles Band, Louisiana Choctaw Tribe, Pointe-Au-Chien Indian Tribe, and the United Houma Nation.

Black Lives Matter Today, and always, Beloved Community honors and centers our Black communities. What we talk about in our sessions is not just academic jargon, or hot topics for our partners to think about and discuss. These topics of race, systems of oppression, and marginalization have real, life and death consequences for our BIPOC community. We believe it is crucial that you continuously interrogate and address the ways that biases, racism, anti-Blackness, white supremacy, and Intersectionality impact your personal decisions, actions, and the ways that your organizations operate.
